I remember someone on here feeding there fish low fat hotdogs. it was an outdoor fish tank and it was huge stocked with p. bass, redtails,pacus... and this subject i believe came up about the amount of fat...anyway does anyone have the link or remember what the hell im talking about.lol

It's not that fish completely lack the ability to digest mammal protein, and or fat, the main risk with most tropical species is the accumulation of fat from these types of feed stuffs. Most tropical fish species require omega-3 (n-3) & n-6 in their diet, and excluding or limiting these types of fatty acids, and/or replacing them with saturated fat (even if the meat appears lean, it will contain a certain degree of these fats) can pose long term health issues with the fish. Also, if too many of these types of foods are offered on a regular basis the fish can end up suffering from fatty acid deficiencies. Open up a fish that is fed hot dogs on a regular basis & I can assure you that you will see excess lipid deposition & necrosis of the liver. Over time this condition will shorten the lifespan of the fish, sometimes by a considerable amount.

problem with beef and deer is that the meat has fat in it which cichlids can't diguest so its a little hard on them and makes a wight film on the top of your water which has to be removed quickly or it will polute your water

People feed there fish beefheart because it contains all most no fat inside really only around it

I believe a balanced diet is the key to keeping healthy fish. I strive for about 60% pellets " brands are debatable". 25% frozen food I like the market shrimp, mussels or whatever I can find on sale at the store. And the rest, live earthworms, crickets or guppys.:)
