I have 10 SDs in my 180, and they're not crowded at all. I have different types, though, and some are smaller than others... so I guess you'd have to figure out what the max size is for the type you're buying. They're pretty close schoolers, but also spread out from time to time.

The only thing I'd advise with these guys is to use as much natural light as possible, rather than a strong tank light -- they're skittish, and the strip light doesn't agree with them... ours is usually off, but the tank receives a good amount of sunlight, so it's no biggie for us, but might be a deal-breaker for you.

so these fish wouldnt be good with the 4x strip t5 4' light? if not they might have to be taken off the list. and i meant along with the rest of my stock list .. besides the pbass how many could i get away with?

Yeah, I guess you might want to remove them from the list... maybe others have had more luck keeping them in lighted tanks, but I just couldn't stand to seem them crashing into the glass all of the time. I'd say a group of ten or so would be fine with your stock list... but, then, they might not fit in with what you're trying to do as far as lighting.
