I was going to get a wierd foot print tank, 8'x3'x either 17" or 25" high. I was wondering if rays could work in there? Mainly motoros, i found a few that are $100 online at about 7-8". Im going to get that book and research up on them before i do anything.

O ya the tank is going to consist of 2 longnose gars and 1 silver aro.

A rectis could live there for life. But not a motoro.

And a silver? NOT A CHANCE!

25" high is a better choice. Firstly, for the additional volume of water, looks nicer and gives the ray to move up and down. :)

Yep, more than enough for silver (several silvers for that matter)

Yhea i dont doubt that.

Keeping huge fish in small tanks are normal in here....................

Would you keep a 3" bass in a tank that is 3" deep..?

THE TANK IS ONLY 2.5 TIMES THE LENGHT OF THE FISH!

But ok, i know common sense is rare in asia and the us.......................

(yes, this is why i only use the stingray and pleco section)

Who has a 3 inch deep aquarium? You? That is not an aquarium but a puddle.

Chill dude, there are not many people on MFK that have 8'x3'x2.5' aquariums. Your care for well-being of fish is admirable, but don't insult people just because your opinion happened to be different. If u feel so strongly about animal rights, then don't keep fish at all.:screwy:

I think a retic would be comfortable for life in that. I would be wary of keeping a really large ray in that tank for its entire life. I am not at all joking- go as big as you possibly can. You will not regret it! I ordered (and paid for) a 96x36x24 and I am already wanting a bigger tank; I haven't even recieved the tank yet!

If you can afford something bigger, it is always in your best interests to go with a tank as big as you are able to get. I don't know a single stingray enthusiest who has ever said "Damn, my tank is too big. Let me get a smaller one!" You will, interestingly, almost never hear of a ray keeper who isn't already planning on eventually getting a bigger tank.

It is all personal preference, but if you are going to get into the hobby, go as big as you can.

Hope this was useful!

Your making a fool of yourself now.

"Your care for well-being of fish is admirable"

Aaaahhhhh, now i see. So Because only few people can fit a 3' fish in their tanks, it makes it ok to stock them into tanks that are really to small?

Oh! and you cant keep fish without insulting their right? OOHH! Animal rights!

As far as i know, their rights says what we have to keep them under acceptable conditions.

A 3' silver in a 8'x3'25" tank is NOT acceptable!!

But ok, i get the point. Im gonna go and get a 3' castexi for my 3' deep tank! Cos i cant get anything bigger than 3' within the next 2 years, and this makes it ok!?

And yhea. I take care of the well-being of my fish! but many noobs here dont! And if you dont do this, THEN you shouldent keep fish!

That´s why i only use the sting and pleco forum.

It is YOUR opinion that keeping 3' silver aro in 8'x3x'25" is unacceptable. Anyway, this is a stingray section...

I have this feeling that i am responding to someone who is not at all that well versed in English. Read my response and think before you respond.

I have no idea about rays max size requirements, but 3' SILVER ARO CAN LIVE IN a 8' LONG AND 3' WIDE AQUARIUM (25" of water depth is plenty sufficient) ... obviously you have never kept a silver aro before and if that is true, please do not give advise
