I have a juvie male umbie that was identified here on MFK, and also a female juvie dovii.
Could they possibly mate. I'm just curious. If so, tyhis would be one mean s.o.b.
 
Dovii is a Central Ameriacn and Umbie are South American, I do not think they will be able to produce viable eggs. In my opinion, no I don't think they could breed.

The Manaconda (be careful googling that one) is one of the few exceptions. Festae were until recently classified as Amphilophus and are more closely related to CA cichlids than most other SA cichlids. I posted the thread above a while back but didn't seem to generate much interest at the time however it might shed some light on this subject. I found it interesting because there isn't much info on the evolution of cichlids. I hope it helps.

Google that at your own risk! I would suggest that you not Google it around your little kids though. Depending on the filter on your internet, you can be bombarded with some sketchy pics and images. The same goes for Goat Eyes. Don't ask. It's a long, strange, and troubling story.
