Could this happen?

Thought Umbee was a Central, then I am unsure whether they could produce viable fry. Umbee appears to resemble a Central more than South but I would never hold my breath. I do know Festae can interbreed with Centrals.

I thought Umbie were found in South AND Central America. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Is Panama in South or Central America?

Panama is right in between Central and South America... it is considered a Central American country so technically Umbee are both CA and SA.

Yea Panama is considered a Central country so correctly Umbie are both. They have a wider range in South America but geographicly speaking they do occer in Central America too, abeit a small part of south western Panama. Geneticly they might be closer to South American cichlids though.

IMO they resemble the big brute CA cichlids much more than SA, if I had to guess I'd say they originated in Central America.

And further more, I don't think nature is even aware of man-made boundaries like South and Central America when it comes to the compatibility of species and their ability to interbreed...
