So right now i have my 75 on a iron stand but its rusted and i dont want to keep it on there much longer just for piece of mind. Before i had it on a stand that i had my 55 on and it did fine till i moved to the iron stand. There are some pieces of would that need to be replaced on the wood stand so im gonna put some new 2x4's to refinish it. should it be ok with a 75 on it?

should be as long as you build it right and make sure theres support all around

I was gonna buy a new iron stand or build a stand but dont wanna spend too much. I wanna to a basic stand thats just a frame with no cabinets

You can build a stand for a 75g out of 2x4's for less than $25. I have built many 2x4 stands for 55g-200g tanks.

Just be sure it is surface rust. Check closely for cracks, etc. If the tank wasn't on it I would say to hit it with a hammer and check the soundness of the joints but if one is bad you could get a crash. If you aren't sure it would be best to build new but if it is just surface rust sand it out and repaint.

:iagree:

I agree that you should be able to build a good stand out of wood just take good measurments and make clean even cuts. My husband and I made a wood stand for our 240gal tank out of 4x4's and 1/2inch plywood we over beefed the bracing but it isn't going to go anywhere. We have also rebuilt wood stands that were a little worse for wear. Once you get started you will have more fun knowing that you built something to be proud of. fyi-if you want some stain or paint on it do it before you put the tank on it. we were in a hurry to set up the 240 and to this day it is unfinished wood. ooops

There are many examples of DIY 2x4 stands with photos... look in the stickies and search this forum.
