Hey guys could you help me identify this cichlid, looks like a jaguar but ive never seen one before (of these seen jags before)

Cichlid.jpg

Soz the photos didnt turn out that well taken on my n8 i put it on the wrong setting and the fish was moving. the blue on the side is really blue and the eyes are really red apart from that it looks just like a jag.

Obv i would put this in the right section but i dont know what section that is even did some research on google but i got nothing.
The guy at the shop did tell me but he wasnt speaking clearly and didnt seem in the best mood so i didnt persue him (i asked him twice tho)

Thanks in advance

Hey buddy, you got a managuense AKA jaguar cichlid. I am not to sure about that anal bulge though. He/She may be a bit backed up. You may want to add some epsome salt to the tank. Maybe a table spoon per 5 gallons, pre desolved in tank water. This acts as a natural laxitive. I dont know if its eating yet but if it is a few meals of blanched pea's will also do the trick.
Other than that that is one hot fish you got there my friend

cheers dparks,
its not my fish its at a lfs. its just ive never seen a jaguar with this colouration even when i do a web search.
im thinking about getting it to add with my catfish but i cant research its requirements if i dont know what it is lol. btw thanks about the backed up thing i will pay attention to that if i decide to get it.

lol edit just searched managuense cichlid an they looked the same well similiar. i think just the brightness of the blue just blew me away thanks

That is actually a very good "ID this Fish" pic...most are blurs and shadows. Def. Jaguar with a tummy problem.

thank you Calihawk. ok im guessing not from what ive previously found on these guys but would it be possible to house one with a large catfish or two and possibly another cichlid (like a flowerhorn)
the reason i ask is because its currently being housed on its own so do large preditory/agressive cichlids not accept new tankmates later on in life.
im feeling like im gonna get a if you want it then house it on its own lol

I would NOT add it with a FH. I wouldn't add anything with most FH's to be honest. They are far too aggressive.

I have a 6" FH that will NOT allow ANYTHING in it's tank.

But I have a Jag in a 180 with a Midas, Festae, and a few other cichlids. So far it's been working out. He's a complete baby, but most Jags are not.

welcome to MFK.. nice to meet you

mshill hit it on the head. Flowerhorns are Hybrids and tend to suffer towhat is referred to as hybrid vigor AKA permanent PMS. I have seen and kept FHthat would tolerate tank mates but it is under specific tank conditions andusually requires crowding of your fish which brings on a slew of other issues Iam sure you won’t want to have to deal with.

Also you have not mentioned the type of catfish you would like to house itwith or the size of your tank??

Yepp, I had a titanium FH in the tank with my other cichlids, and the only reason he tolerated it was because he was used to being in a crowded tank. He didn't last long in this tank, and got beat up pretty bad. He just didn't have the fight. So he was rehomed.

thanks alot guys you lot are being really helpful (thats one of the many reasons why i love this site) and thanks red devil.

ive actualy been around a while just kept quiet soaking up ideas, insperation and knowledge from the threads.

ive shown myself on the catfsih section showing my clarias bratrachus and on the datnioides section showing my NTT dats.
ive got a big clarias batrachus (18" ish)in a six foot aquarium (around 120 i think off the top of my head) but soon as i get the funds im planing on building a six footer with more room (already planning it)

i was just thinking if this was somthing special that i didnt wanna miss i could put it in with the cat (my tanks considerably bigger than the one its currently in anyway) as a temp thing untill i sort out more roomy quarters when i could look maybe adding another cichlid.

ive also got my eye on an hemibragus nemurus

sorry for the long winded reply and thanks again for the help.

obviously im not planning on just jumping into these things willy nilly thats why im researching and asking for advice (im looking to make plans for long term solutions instead of impulsive half hearted ones)
