couldi get a silver?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your tank length would support the minimum recomendations for a silver arowana upto 28". It'll take a few years for a silver to get that big, at the pointit does get close to 30" you can then determine on if you want to upgrade or not. Most of the advice you get here are from people who have never even seen an arowana, let alone actually kept one. As Chizzle stated, once the arowana gets to monster size you start to have a differing opinion of what these fish need. Though not ideal, your tank could support a large silver aro.

I don't see why everyone says you shouldn't.

95% of Silvers don't have the opportunity to be in that big of a tank. I'm sure a Silver would be much better off in your 3' wide than someone else 55 like most end up in.

I think you would be fine.

Everyone? One person counts as everyone :duh: Also 30" is not 3'.

a year and a half to 2 years. It might not even become that big if you end up stunting it.

The size of the OPs tank is going to have nothing to do with stunting.

Agreed 100%. A 3' tank won't stunt it's growth. You have a good year and a half 2 years before it even reaches the 2' mark. Then you can upgrade.

My silver is @ least 20", maybe bigger. I've only had him for 8 months. **** u not. My aquarium is 96"x 34.50"x 30" high. Roughly about 430 gal.

Ok, after staring @ my fish for the last couple of minutes, I've come to the conclusion that I was a bit to optimistic with my last post. He's more like 18". Regardless, I believe he'll exceed 24" in the next 16 months........hopefully I wont have to eat my words.

If it's 18" now, probably more realistic for it to hit 24" within the next 4-6 months. You'll then like see it's growth slow to just a couple inches a year.

It could take a lot less then you say. I have had as fast as 24"+ in 10 months. If it is placed in that tank from small and not moved or stressed, the op should expect fast growth.

Once they are large as stated, you will see a very large difference in ones ideas for care and min tanks. I agree that most people have not even seen large fish and at most have seen 15-18" fish and base their opinions off them. Not the best way to get advice. You can get one and it will be fine in that tank for a while. You will hit a point were the width of this tank will be an issue.
