ya I had a 2 foot channel in there too but I lost the whole pond cause of some kind of poisoning still not sure what happened the pond is a cattle trough about 300 gallons

426hemi, Is it a metal trough or a plastic one? The metal ones need a liner or a coating before using for fish as most are galvinized and that leads to zinc poisoning, The fish build it up in their systems with only minor symptoms until it is too late them start loosing weight, gasping and flashing, sloughing excess slime, shimmying, and then die, all in the course of a couple days.

300 gallons is a very small for a Koi pond, especially if you have a big catfish in there as well. Is it possible that the "mystery" disease could have been precipitated by an ammonia spike? Ammonia spikes can happen so fast even after the water has been checked to be ok. I dont know...its just an idea
