Couple questions about drilled aquariums

Finally figured it out...stupid me was trying to put PVC on the outside of the bulkhead! On the inside, it's the slip type, so i'm going to put a piece of PVC pipe on both ends and then cap both sides, so if one leaks the other will still be in place.

One final question...is it possible to cut out the overflows with a razor blade without damaging the sealant of the tank? If I can't, I think I'll just hacksaw/utility knife it off at about 2" high and bury it under sand.

I don't see why not. It is a good idea to re-seat the bulk heads with some silicone on inside of the tank. Run a small bead of silicone on the inside of the flange that will be mating the inside of thank with the bulk head. Also, since the bulk heads are plastic, only hand tighten them, do not use any wrenches on them.

wow,I would also keep the overflows and atleast try a sump ,then If you dont like it remove the overflows...You can build a sump very cheaply, many threads here on that....
