Hey Wes, I am so impressed with how you bring in some of the rarest fish in the world and wanted to ask a couple requests you may not have had before.

Esox Reichertii, "Amur Pike", Mongolia

Clarias Gariepinus, "Sharptoothed Catfish", (Orange River South Africa/Zaire River DR Congo)

Heterobranchus longfillis, Vundu Catfish, Zambezi River Zimbabwe

Boesemania Microlepsis, Boeseman Croaker, Chao Phraya River, Thailand.

Maccullochella ikei, Clarence River Cod, Richmond/Clarence River Australia

Lutjanus Fuscescens, Freshwater Snapper, Papua New Guinea

Thank you very much for checking out my list and I'd like to hear if you could see yourself bringing any of these in in the near future as I'd be just about dying to place an order for any of the above.-Ryan

I think all Clarius catfish are banned in the U.S.The snapper sounds interesting though.

Yeah dude I keep on finding more and more fish I'd love to see more of in the hobby... real monsters too that would probably fair better then armatus and tigerfish in the MFK type of home aquarium.

I'm not really sure why they are banned, and actually, the species you mentioned might not be but I'm pretty certain the Chinese Walking Catfish is banned and it is a Clarias species....Some kneejerk politician must have heard that the Clarias would or could wipe out some of our ecosystems and whipped himself into a frenzy over it...

Yeah I've heard the same with the chinese walking catfish but I thought that had more with its "ability" to go from pond to pond and "wipe out ecosystems" which i don't even think they can do as they really don't even get very big do they? I just want to see the teeth on one of the sharp toothed cats.

Hate to derail but, Clarias are native to Africa. They were introduced in Asia as a simple and inexpensive culturable food source in areas with low DO.

Yeah I listed the clarias sp. as being from african "zaire river zimbabwe". Thanks for chiming in though oddball.... have you ever owned any of these?

Esox Reichertii, "Amur Pike", Mongolia
has been in the works, you'll see it before I die.

Clarias Gariepinus, "Sharptoothed Catfish", (Orange River South Africa/Zaire River DR Congo)
something of that sort has been brought out, however all airsac cats are illegal in my state, considered injurious/detrimental to the environment

Heterobranchus longfillis, Vundu Catfish, Zambezi River Zimbabwe
same as above

Boesemania Microlepsis, Boeseman Croaker, Chao Phraya River, Thailand
I am going to bring in something similar to this, however, how many do people really want of this, its not particularly striking, colorful or unique. Probably tates better than it looks. don't get me wrong, I'm all for the rare common looking fish. Just don't know if I can bring them in and justify the cost of it, and make any recovery in sales from them.

Maccullochella ikei, Clarence River Cod, Richmond/Clarence River Australia

I had a hard time selling maccullochella peellii peellii, in the past which is almost identical for all that care about it. its not cheap to get Australian fish into the country, and not enough people appreciate them. Sad :(

Lutjanus Fuscescens, Freshwater Snapper, Papua New Guinea

the better one I believe is L. goldiei, the new guinea black bass., however this fish is not really obtainable, I do have it on my high wish list. Then again, will I make a trip just to bring them for the hobby? Probably not, will I go visit the habitat and maybe bring some back for myself? Possibly.

I guess it all goes down to simple economics. The American market for fish is soft, nobody wants to pony up the money for the rare stuff. They want to bargain over a 100 dollar fish, and one inch size difference. the first time I saw the leptobotia elongata, it was a dried up one on the side of the road, a few inches, and I thought I stumbled upon gold, took a ton of pictures of it. I have the picture to prove it too, beggers can't be chosers as the American saying goes.

There are a few people who do really show genuine interest in the rare stuff, and I will sometimes even give them a discount without them asking, and I've given discounts to my regulars without them asking. can you see my frustration now? I understand the world economy is not good, even in Japan they are struggling with buying high ticket items. So I do intend on serving the people with real interest in rare fish and finding the rare stuff.
