Hardly a monster, but interesting no less, it is a mouthbrooder where the male carries eggs and young.
It is Betta albimarginata.
I have them in a 55, but I've heard a small tank is fine.
I've been considering putting them in a smaller tank, they seem to get lost in the 55.
Bet they'd work with some shell dwellers, as they basically remain near the surface a major portion of the time, and the shell dwellers remain on or near the bottom.

I wouldnt do them together haha its one or the other
My pH is approx + or - 7.5 and I keep a bit of a current going, it is my understanding they come from streams in Borneo unlike the waters the Thai B splendens lives in. This may be the reason they are mouthbrooders, coming from a place where moving water wouldn't allow a bubblenest to hold together.what Ph do these bettas like?...im guessing its no where near as high as the shell dwellers require
go with these they are awesome!!! (the betta that is)...not the shellies are not..we have a group and they are amusing. but these bettas are awesome
