Hi GUYS.

Dan you must know about chelydra cares and medical attention and Coura you seem to be a turtle expert and I'd like to request for your advice guys:

It turns out that my baby chelydra seems to be sick, he(assuming it is a male) is all the time out of the water just lying on a rock with almost no activity at all.

I just saw him eating some squid fillet 2 days ago but that's it.

Despite when examining him carefully he seems well, his eyes and skin are ok as well as his shell and seems to be breathing ok but this lack of activity and lack of apetite calls my attention quite powerfully specially if we are talking about a chelydra....

He doesnt submerge at all but when swimming he does itpretty fast just to reach some stone and then rest up on...

I raised the tank temp to 28 celcius and I am assuming he's got pneumonia...

What else could it be and what can I do I wouldnt like he to die on me dudes.....

Help!!!!!:nilly:

It's good that you boosted the water temp up. Keep him warm. What's your basking temp? Does he float at all when you put him in the water? Any discharge or bubbles from his nose?

Hi Bro.

When i,put him on the water we swims pretty quicly to the nearest rock,

No bubbles from his nose everything on him seems to be fine... even last night I took him and tryed to snapp at me, hehehe it was funny, that little thing tring to snap my finger....

Whai does basking mean?

I'm sorry to hear he's off his food. It doesn't sound like he is doing too badly, but I think raising the temperature and doing a water change is a good idea. Has he been eating every day up until now?

If you see signs of pneumonia (labored breathing, bubbly nose) you should get him on antibiotics, Coura may have suggestions as to what kind.

I wish I had more advice...

Good luck and keep us posted.

HI guys.

His baskin is ok about a couple of degress more than the water temp. In fact some months ago I had a pseudodemys nelsoni who had pneumonia and kept in in the same conditions I am keeping the snapper right now. The nelsoni almost die but at the end did it good.

I hope same occurs with my snapper...

Thanks for you imput guys, any other advice?.

....Ok;)...As for your turtle I fear that he really has a respiratory infection:( Bubles or mucus dont allways apear, the simptons are consistent with it. He is allways serching for a place to get out of the water because its lungs are congestionate and he doesant fell ok swiming. You did well in raising the temp;) Now as krazzy as that may seem you must unplug the heater during the nigth. I dont know why, but in my experience it increses your chance to save your turtle. Put it on during the day again. Now your turtle should be treated with antibiotic as well so it would be good to take him to a vet. I use baytril to treat thouse. Can you get some balsamic cream, thouse that are used to treat colds? Put your turt in a air thigh container, put some of that in one of the walls and close the cap. Leave him there for like 20 minutes. Lets see how he reacts

Are you sure of that heater thing? wouldn't it be logical to think that if I turn it off during the night a decrease in temp could worsen his condition?.

About baytril, what is the formula? does it contain peniciline?. that medicine does not exist in Mexico, it doesn't at least under that name but if you gave me the formula I could look for it under another commercial name....

How did you manage to give your sick turtles that medication and how often did you give it to them?

Wait for your input.
