Baytril can also be tubed into an animal orally, ive done this on many wc blood pythons that come in with ri.Do you have a UV on the tank-essential for any turtle IMO,even snappers. Also, check your water quality, this is what normally causes a lot of turtle problems along with incorrect diet.Personally,i wouldnt drop temps at night on an ill animal.Regards to food, eartworms (think you guys in the US may call them nightcrawlers?) get many turtles feeding well.
Uv ligh is a good thing to ad to a turt habitat, but lets keep him away from intense ligths for now. However water quality is really important;) Armand, clean it daily, it will help. As for the nigth drop, funny isnt it?:D But in turts it works and can even save lifes. For some reason it makes turts more reselient to the hillness or it provides less optimal condicions for bacterial growth:confused:

Hi.

My brother was with turt at the Vet. and I was able to talk to the vet by phone.

After his checking out the trurt (he even took a radiography) he told me the turt was OK ... I questioned him how was it possible, if the turt just rest up on rocks and never sumerge and eats nothing?????:screwy:.

He claims the turt wich is a baby has never been kept in a big tank like mine with a water current therefore is sort of stressed. He says there are such cases when little newborn turts are taken inmediatly after hachling and handled to trade so it is not uncommon some of this little ones are not accostumed to swimm because have been always in some conditions that keep them from develop their habilities..... uncommon but nor rare he says.

He suggested me to keep him in a tank with a lower level of water and a good temp to see how he does.

Some people recommended me this vet since he's got reptile expirience and is a turtle owner aswell.

So what do you think guys?.

I would say your vet is wrong as it doesant makes sence to me:confused: Snappers are aquatic turtles unless the water is too warm, there is no reason for the behavior you descrive apart being sick. A stressed turt should look for the protecion of water even more. Do me a favor Armand, this a diagnossis test that rarely fails. Put your turt in a small aquarium with deep water and no place to get out of the water or decoracion. Wait and see, your turt should try to serch for a place to get out of the water but in about 30 minutes he should calm down. Once he calms down see if he floats or sinks. If he floats specialy if he floats on one side its the last proof that we need. Well since this has being going on for quite a bit lets make some more proactive stuff. Are you 100% shure that he doesant have a skin infection? (just to make shure;))
In the tank were your keeping it, your going to remove all the places to get out completly of the water, but let it stay some smood stones in mid water for him to rest but not get out. Why? because they only eat on the water and if they are allowed to stay out of the water all the time they tend to get more and more unresponsive, you would be forced to put him in the water each time you wanted to feed and that will stress him. Next make shure you have deep water and keep with the temp changes. Clean it daily. Since you cant get vet help we wont use baytril. Insted we will use the antibiotic terramicin(oxitetracyclin) wich is widely used for lifestock (im shure you can find it on Mexico) and its given oraly(keep your fingers crossed that its not a fungus). Its a yellow powder. Your going to mix a litle bit(there is no time or practibility to be precise, it wont do any harm to your turt) like what would fill this O, with shreeded chicken, into a litle burger that your going to give your turt with like litle sharp stick to put it just in front of her face. If possible make her cach it out of the water. You can repeat a few times to make shure some is going to endup in her gut. Dont mix it with the water, it wont do any good. Fingers crossed

Ok Coura.

Just some aditional info:

Turt looks normal at sight he doesnt floats aside. Last night he was doing some funny movements with his head, like an snake or a chiken, I even thought he was dying but at morning he was still alive.

He's got food withing his reach so now that I arrive home from the office I will see how he's done, maybe he is dead by now.:cry:

I mean I don't want to be pesimist but when any living thing doesn't eat is obviously doomed. I don't know how much time can this little fellows being without eating but mine has 12 days aprox.

I guess I will find out this night when arriving home. My last hope is that at last he has eaten something by now.

Cheers.

HEY HOLD YOUR HORSES  Do you say funny moves? Well another thing may be going on and that is compatible with thouse simptoms:amebeiasis. Its caused by unicelular parasites and afects the central nervous sistem, and so the funny moves you see. Dont give up hope, if its this he will recover. Go to your local farmacy or medicin store and ask for Flagyl, most have it because its for pregned women. Its a pill. Cut a peace about this size O and very gently your going to put it on your turtle anus. Why? Because its on the rectun that most of this parasites hang. The medicine must be puted the deepest you can into the turt´s vent. Use a coton swab or by the outside manage it so to guide it inside. If its the thing your going to see improvements in the next 48 hours. Do it once a day. Once your turt starts to eat again you can also mix it in its food. Hope its not to late, but dont give up hope I saved a seriously hill painted whit this metod. Also its unlikely that he will starve to death in that period, remenbar in the wild they hibernate in their first winter and do just fine

Hi Coura.

A rather difficult maneuver due to the size of this turt however as i am determin him to live I'll do it.

Some times he swims and rest floating at the top of the water with half of his body and his head submerged while the rear remains floating.

By moments he seems Ok but as i told you he makes funny movements with his head, I dont think it is normal.

I hope your diagnose is right though...

I'll be in touch.

Coura shouldnt he repeat the treatment in about 2 weeks and then another 2 weeks after that to make sure he kills all parasites of all life stages? That is just what I have read for the meds I have had to use. And armand dont be too worried about him I helped an asian box turtle that didnt eat for 6 weeks and he survived so just be patiesnt and do what coura is saying.

It now seems much like amebiasis to me. Thouse weird moves are not from a respiratory infection. I can not overstate how gentle you must be to introduce the medicine bit into the turt rectun

Yes he can, the treatment is daily and once the turt is better it can be given with a peace of chicken oraly. So you have a Cuora amboinesis or another Cuora species?:) Thouse are my favorites asians:D
