If you have any spare live rock from your 75 reef tank, put it in your new one. That will help to cycle it faster.

so went to the lfs today to price out some protien skimmers and the owner gave me this skimmer...he said it came with a wet/dry someone had and they brought it in and gave him it because they didnt need it so he said this will hold me off for a little bit till i can afford another one....will this be good enough for now?? it looks kinda cheap but i was always told as long as it gets the job done lol

also he told me to go with crushed coral instead of live sand to syphon better because of the waste of the fish...would any one agree or is he tryin to make some $ off of me...i think they might be the same price tho

the pump is a rio 800 and it doesnt have any logo or anything on the skimmer but i do have a question about placing the skimmer into the wet dry i no i put it into where the water goes in part where all the bioballs are(i think) but how will it fit with the drip pan do i cut the drip pan around it?

theres gotta be someone out there to help me??:( also how should i clean the inside of the hoses? can i soak them in something safe?

Id say negative on the CC lol. Rays are bottom dwellers and going to spend some time down there. Having sand will be much better for them, for a number of reasons. Id advise on getting another skimmer anyways and also finding a way that you could turn the wet/dry into a refugium. Rays need very well maintained water and the more you have for equipment the better off you'll be. My advise would be getting either the coralife skimmer or setting up a sump, if you have the option for overflow. Let the tank sit for a while and possibly using UV would help as well. I might also consider learning the ropes of ozone and use that in your water. Id also have to agree on the 300 or larger as well. the bigger the tank, the better off you'll be in housing SW rays, Its best advised to keep them in one place as long as you can so you don't cause stress problems, or injure yourself.

thanks for the advice...finally someone got backto me lol...i dont plan on housing rays i was thinking about using it for fw rays but i think im just gonna use it for my sw predators(angels..eels ect) im thinkin maybe a lion emporer angel and a zebra moray any other advice :)

Id still suggest sand, mostly becuase of the eel. He'll be a bit happier with sand vs CC for something hes gunna be laying in most all day. Good amounts of rock work will be nice. Dead or live, doesnt matter for FOWLR. Sump with a fuge would be something i would try having along with a decent skimmer. No need for canisters or HOB filters as long as you have the sump. A great source of water should also be hunted down to minimize the amount of "junk" being added to the tank with make up water.
