.....Filtration will be public aquarium grade RK2 system.....

To give you guys an idea of size... these are R2K protein skimmers in the box.

heh - That's actually smaller than I thought they were...

Awesome rays man. Good luck on the 40k tank can't wait to see it.

If I ever had to do it, I'd NOT use ocean water. We run open systems here, and we fight disease all day / every day. It's like running a non stop quarantine system.

Don, the ones in my pic are spec'd to something like 1,000 gph wide open if I remember right.

The one I'm looking at is good for 750 gpm (yes, gallons per minute). I thought about getting ocean water, but it's just a huge pain in the ass, and like Matt said, there's all manner of disease to worry about. Plus it'll be a warm water tank, and the water off the coast and at depth is close to 50 degrees.

Though it's still a year away, mixing 40K gallons of salt should be pretty damn funny.

Hope you have some good friends to help with all that. How many boxes of salt would that be? Maybe you can just buy it at a discount price and have them dump a load on your driveway like they do with multch.

bonnet heads? i catch these guys all the time off the east coast of central florida. i've always thought they would do great in a tank because they don't get very large (biggest one i've caught was almost 3ft) and they also almost resemble little hammer heads.

i could catch a few and send you some :)
