She looks GREAT! I have never kept Noto's, they are on my want list and it's getting shorter all the time! Hopefully you will manage a couple of the other one. . . is is a male?
unfortunately the other is a female as well. i picked up three and they were in pretty sorry shape. had a fungus of some sorts, two recovered and one didnt.
i got them so small that the ocelli on the dorsal fin wasnt showing yet, i should go get some more but last time i was at shark aquarium, the tank with them was looking pretty bad. i still love them and so far not to much aggresion
I was wondering what a good price for them is. My lfs is selling two for $145 and I was thinking about getting them. Ive had one before in a 125g with Oscars and JDs but that was a long time ago and the price seems a bit high. They are both about 5". Also, how big do they get because I dont remember mine being that big.
5" seems kinda of big. Ive always heard 3-4" on these guys. Ive had two females for about 8 months now and they seem to have stopped growing at around 3". are they definitely notopthalmus?
$145 seems to be alot of money in my mind. I paid $45 for 3. They were only 1.5-2" tho.
I think that you should hunt down at least one male, be one of the first to spawn them, I think they need really low pH and hardness to make it work One guy here in Winnipeg has been trying in vain to get them to spawn with no luck, I'm not sure he even still has the pair.
Wow, they are looking top notch mate!!! Loving the coloration? What size tank you got them in?
Keep it up, they look like they are starting to get the pink belly already! AWESOME! Its cool as they age and get more sexually mature, their whole dorsal will go pink, along with their belly! Looks amazing!
When they face off, do you notice that the black blotch behind their eye and the yellow on the gill plate intensifies? Its looks ridiculously awesome!! I wish I could get a picture of mine when they spare. Awesome about the aggression btw, I've got mine in the 300gal and they still spar with each other every now and then.
I've got two males btw, and only need one. Tip top shape as well. When one of them pairs up with my female, we'll see what can be done about getting you a male.
BTW...do either of your females have more than one splotch in the dorsal? Mine has two, looks quite interesting. Very cool lookin for sure.
bdevilcasey ~ I'm gonna have to say either you are getting ripped off, or that is a different type of pike. Probably one of the larger Lugubris group like marms, lents, or atabapo. I can see a price like that for one of them. Still a little steep in my opinion, but if you take into account shipping costs, it about evens out.
