Anyone here currently keeping Cr. vitatta? I have a chance to get a pair, thinking about it of course, but curious to know some thoughts.

I should make you give me some of your Crenicichla and tanks for posting this in the photo lounge. Silly!

Vittata are AWESOME pikes hands down no doubt! They have HUMONGOUS mouths, crazy large!!! They grow large as well, and are pretty robust pikes. They are from Uruguay, so they would benefit from cooler waters. I think Felipe said that he's seen them still breeding in 50* water. LoL

Generally same basic care as for all other Crenicichla. Put them in the tank and just let them be. LoL

How many tanks DO you have anyway? You are keeping each species of Crenicichla to their own tank right? Crazy stuff!!!

Well that about says it all then LOLOLO!!! :grinno:

Thanks Ken. I know you have experience with them, so thank you for your input. I am told like 18-20 inches huge, huh? Yikes!! Reminds me of damn Cichla :D

Thanks Jer,
Yes.....all mine are in species-specific aquariums. Mixed some small multis in with my small ladder pike and the ladders beat the shibby out of the multis. My cobra group is alone in a 125.
Not sure if I want this pair, but we'll see. I kind of have to get them if I want the real jewels that are coming along with them. Good to know about their cooler water requirements of course. They'd do well in the garage! LOL

Thanks again!

Meant to say from a cool down period. You should be able to keep them in warmer waters most of the year. Basically same requirements as celidochilus and the other Uruguayian pikes.

So, so, so sexy.......

Are those the actual ones? Vitatta is one of those ones that I want, but, we only got two large-ish ones when I was in Uruguay last March :( Go for it, I'm positive you won't be disappointed, unless you already own them LOL

If those are the actual ones, SUPER HOTT!!!

Looks like there is a third one in there as well. Vittata are super hott pikes, so congrats on finding an adult pair! Thats sexy!

Sorry guys, those are not mine. I wish!! Did not mean to make it look that way. The ones I can get are much smaller, but do have outstanding color for vitatta...I will say that. I was impressed by them, that's for sure. It's either them of a nice group Cr. celidochilus......probably not both. No more tank space. The celidos are adults, too. Decisions decisions!!
