Cr. vitatta info?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IMHO, Celidos will be best kept VERY crowded, the tank that Felipe has his in is stacked top to bottom with fish (anyone that has been can attest to that). . . they are mean SOB's and will kill each other without a reason LOL I have never kept them, price prohibitive for me (plus we never tried to get any when we were there) but, I think that you will find that most people end up with one. Not that I am trying to sway you either way, just my line of thinking. Plus, Vitatta are gentle giants of the pike world. . . food for thought :D

Yep, they basically hate each other. They get along fine with other fish though.

Thanks guys. I appreciate both of your valuable input. I don't want to pass up such an opportunity, but I am quickly running out of resources here. I have a few weeks to decide, so I am just going to take my time. Right now I have each species separated, and it will remain that way. In the past twenty five or so years that I have been keeping fish very little of that time was ever spent concentrating on pikes, but even then I always kept them in pike-species-specific tanks. Just always seemed like the right thing to do.

I have to think about this some more............ :grinyes:

Thanks again,

Yeah, that is a HOT vitatta!!

Please don't tell me you ate him.

Oliver always teases me when he sends me photos of big Cichla......he says, "what do you think of this one"? I tell him my thoughts, then he tells me that regardless of the species it tasted really good. Of course I cringe!!

LOLOLO

We've had Vittata twice (not currently) - a unique and colorful Pike aka 'Gator Pike'.
The females have more color. Our girl was 12"+ when attacked and killed by a smaller Atabapo I female. Don't know max. size altho Oliver told me of a giant 24" Vittata his friend saw while diving. If you can get a pair (or trio) - GO FOR IT!

This is my female vittata from last night. She's the only one that I have, and is the only pike in her tank. She's easily the best-looking pike that I've got right now (after losing my female celido a couple of days ago. :(

While she is fairly peaceful for a pike, she does have enough of an attitude that she's not a big favorite of her current tankmates.

Hey did you guys see the Vittas on YouTube someone has a tank with about 10 of them in diffrent sizes they seem ok but you can tell there were fights.
