Alright I recently purchased a large 225 gallon aquarium. It is sitting in my living room right now. It is an older tank with thick glass, without water it probably weighs about 600 lbs. It is not full right now.

The weight of the tank full has always made me nervous. I did have it full for about 8 hours just to leak test it. A week or so after the leak test I noticed a bigger separation in my hard wood floors. The thing is, I don't know if the crack has always been there or not. The separation is about 10 ft away from the tank down the hall.

My floor joists run perpendicular to my tank and there is a metal i-beam below the wall directly behind it. If there is anywhere in my house (besides the basement) that could hold this tank, this is probably the spot.

So I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this? Or does anything think the tank could have caused it?

Since the tank is empty-is there any way you and someone else could scoot it out away from the wall 4' or so? Then you could see if that floor board went back into place.

Maybe I wasn't clear. The displacement in the floor is 10ft away from the tank. The floor is fine around the tank but 10ft down the hall there is a separation in the floor boards for about 3 ft then it goes back to normal.

Oh, I see. It doesn't sound like it's because of the tank if the area around the tank isn't flexed. Short of getting a builder in there to look at it, I'm not sure how you'd really know for sure if the floor will hold it alright.

Yeah if it's not the same board that is under the tank, I wouldn't see why it would be from the tank. I'm no architect though, so.........ya.

the tank didn't cause the crack im a flooring installer either the water leaked over which can cause a darker coloration in the floor making the crack more noticeable or the water made the boards shrink and swell or the wood moved over time like it does and your just noticing it

The only reason I'm asking is because the crack is straight down the hallway from the tank. I wouldn't doubt that it wasn't there before but I just wanted to see if anyone has seen anything like that happen.

You hide your CRACK in the floor? I'm calling the cops.

LOL only kidding. I'm not sure if that's what it's from but hopefully everything works out ok. GL

It's first floor. I have a basement though. Floor joists run perpendicular. Metal i-beam in the wall behind the tank.
