cracked glass help me out pleez

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok guy's new point here the more i think about this after just what tank buster was saying if i'm really going to have to cut the glass and take it out and replace it doe's any one know any one nere me that is willing to help me out in this for some money overiously but if i gotta cut the glass out to fix it i'm just going to end up breaking to hole damn tank on accident and then get mad and smash it so let me know what my other options are besides cutting out the peices and replacing them. On the lines of how can i reinforse the bottom of the tank were it is cracked on the out side to make sure it doesn't burst and how can i reinforce the side on the bottom plate were it is chipped like can i just add a thick piece of glass on to the bottom of the tank and also a thick piece on to the side were the chip is and then again a thick piece on the inside over the crack let me know about anything on the lines of reinfocment or some one down here that could fix it for a price. thanks again

ok let me start here then i don't exactly know how the top cracked but i know how the bottom did first of it got brought in to the basement and there was only three guys me and two others and i lifted it fine by my self till we started going down the stairs and that wasn't going to happen so we put down a bored and kind of slid it down the bored to the bottom of the basement and the end that was on the top of the board the bottom black plastic broke of and then when the tank slide it cracked and chipped the bottom so that's exactly why it cracked stupidity

Holy Heart Attack! Well you can bumo this thread and see if any Mass members hit you up. I wish you luck on this project and it will be worth it if you can salvage it.

so let me ge this straigt are you telling me i don't have to replace the botton glass i only have to cut out the bracing and replace it that goes over it i'm a bid confused on that one i mean i'm sure i can cut of the euro brace on the top and replace it cause it just sits on the top of the tank but if i have to cut a piece off of the bottom and just replace a section of it that sounds realy complecated to me so what exactly are you saying to do to the bottom of the tank pleez re explained i'm confused thanks allot man and aviously it's worth my time to salvage it i spent alot on it and don't have money to buy a new one so that goes with out saying not trying to be rude at all just saying that's a given thanks again

All cracked pieces must be replaced, under any stress small cracks will turn into big cracks then complete failure of that glass, anything damaged should be replaced, just like a windshield in a car, when you gewt a crack, it will grow bigger everytime that car flexes and has pressure on it, and the water in that tank will put massive pressure on all weak points.

also another question so i guess it looks like if i don't flip out and smash this tank to bitts that i got to replace the bottom or it and the top brace piece can i use a sheet of acrylic to replace a glass sheet on a glass tank is that possible. And also i have no clue what kind of glass i would need to by can some one explain that to me thanks again for you'r time and effort of ya if any one's interested in this cracked piece of crack come and get it from my house for 400 bucks and it's you'r i don't even want to deal with it to be honest.

still need help pleez

i got an idea for you.go to a local window tint shop and see if they have any security film.its like 3 mil thick and might keep the glass from breaking, really strong stuff.im sure that it could keep leaks from happening to cause of the adhesive.you would have to apply it to the outside of the tank because you have to apply it with soapy water.if you want further info on it pm me and ill type out the brochure for you

I would do as tankbuster said, measure how thick your glass is and what size, especially the bottom peice. Then look in your phone book for glass places. Call and get a qoute on that size peice. and the peice for the brace at the top.

What tankbuster is saying is cut the cracked brace out at the top, cut the inner bottom brace over the crack out and then turn it over and cut the bottome peice of glass out. And replace those 2 broke peices. Read up on a tank repair(many people have done it) and research what silicone to use. They make special silicone for tanks but I think you can use GE silicone but it has to be a certain type.

I don't think there is a special glass you need, just same size/thickness. And no I wouldn't use acrylic as silicone doesn't bond to acrylic well at all and bonding the two different surfaces(glass to acrylic) would be a pain.

Oh and I have a similar tank bought from a friend and the molding is very cheap and really not glued properly which IMO is why it falls/breaks off so easily. I don't have the extent of the problem you have as I have no cracks though.

Good Luck with it.

hey cichlaguapote do i have to replace the hole bottom piece or can i just cut of the piece that is cracked maybe a couple inches further down from it and just replace that section or do i need a piece for the bottom that is one solid peice does that matter thanks again for the reply
