Cracked my heater :/

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use a 500 W Titanium heater in my sump for my 240 acrylic. I only got the metal heater so that if I wanted to, I could put it in a tank and not worry about it getting broken. Also, it has no thermostat. That is seperate, so if the heater goes out, I can buy another and just plug it into the stat.

You must need more flow in your tank. Not sure why that's not enough heat for you. Try getting the water to move around more. Or turn the dial up more.

I move over 1000 gallons an hour, I think you're onto something though. I have the heater placed outside of the main current. The dial isn't the problem, that heater NEVER shuts off.

Yes that's pretty bad and tough on the electric bill and in time will burn out the heater

I have 2 300's jagers in my 225. mainly because the tank is 3' wide and I need the heat to stretch all around so I prefere two to one. You can buy heater cases to protect them you could do that.
It depends really, if the heater is fully functional and only cracked you could cover it up with a case short term. or just go get a new one. I had an oscar that used to break any heater I put in. considering these guys are supposed to be "peaceful" he would not live with anything except an Irwini catfish I was growing out. and the only reason he didnt attack the Irwini is that its covered in spikes and would whip him with his spikey tail if the oscar got too close.

One the oscar cracked them I removed them and then started putting them in heater cases, problem solved.
