i havnt had one crack yet but i aw somewhere that an uneven tank will crack? because my 55 gal is a little uneven. is it bad or not?

That is bad..... Some people get lucky and some don't. If it were my 55 gal. I would get some shim's and a level and fix it asap, so that way youre not one of the people that reply to this thread with a leaky tank... I found out anything over 30g. seems to be more fragile than say a 10g. or so. All my tanks that busted out were because they weren't level. But then again I know of some tanks that I used to have that were not level that never busted. I guess you just take your chances... All my tanks are level now...

This thread is making me sad already ;(.

I havnt't had a tank break on me yet (that was set up propperly) however I have come close, when I was cleaning a 15G tank, I filled it up in the a sink and let it sit with water overnight. When I came back the next morning, it had broke all the way down a seam, so lucky that I didn't have anything in it.

This thread isn't suposed to make you sad. Just to share experiences with how much water weve had to mop up.:grinno:

Not a tank blow but once I didnt have a cover for my 18G and I put a large towel over 2ftx1ft footprint of the tank. So the towel draped over the tank and I watched it for about 30 minutes, the same time I was on the xbox. So I went to bed and 4 am in the morning my mum woke me (She goes to work at 4 am) and pointed to the tank. The whole towel was sogging wet and 6" of water had escaped from the tank( 15" high tank). The result was around 7 gallons in a tight area covering, just completely covering a powerboard that supported 3 tanks. Close call.

BAD!!! VERY BAD!! Take the recommendation from the manufacturer to the heart about using a business card and slide it between your tank and stand. If the card can go through, then you need to support it somehow. I lost a brand new 60 gallons tank the next day after I filled it with water (fortunately no fish yet) - vertical crack on front panel, top to bottom.. A friend of my brother lost a brand new 150 gallons tank. If you use some sort of DIY stand or gorilla steel rack, place 1/4 or thicker styrofoam sheet under the tank as cushion

With as many tanks as I've kept, and am still maintaining, the occassional blow-out is inevitable. Here's my most recent. The 285 was nearly filled (you can make out the fresh waterline) when it blew. I was standing near the front right corner when I heard a couple of "tic-tic" sounds just before it blew. I got a good soaking and the rush of water blew the hatchery door open and proceeded to water the lawn up to 10 feet from the door.

o wow, i just set up a 125 and i can notice the water sits a tad higher on one side then the other... im deff gonna get this thing leveled out tomorrow and maybe get some stryofoam to put between the tank and stand
