Now I ask you how many of you have had a tank this size crack on you and how did you fix it?

When we got our 300 gallon tank, our orders were to inspect the tank and not accept it if there was anything wrong. It was sitting on two pallets and completely wrapped up. There was no obvious damage like a forklift through the side or bottom or any damage to the wrapping, so we accepted it. It took several months before the floor was shored up and the stand was made. When we finally peeled of all the paper, we discovered a crack in the floor....too late for us. Fortunately, the tank is acrylic. The tank builder sent us a couple of pieces of acrylic to place over the crack which ran by the corner of an overflow box. I was horrified since it was going to be a bare bottom tank. My husband came up with a very esthetic repair. Indeed, the repair is the only "decoration" in the tank.

I agree lucky break you caught it before it flooded your restaurant!
I would really like to say Id just patch it like in the op,and probably would for my fishroom. But in your place of business?300g is an awful lot of water.I'm thinking replace the bottom.Cool Idea to make another tank with the pieces.
Think you are on the right track with the stand.Be certain it is perfectly flat and level esp corner to corner before putting the tank back on the stand.

i love that patch in the bare bottom very classy nice

Well at long last I have come to getting at this cracked tank.

I have decided that I am going to put a 2 ft x 2 ft patch with the glass going 1 ft on each side of the crack. If that does not work, I will be able to order a 10ft piece for 200 from my supplier. the only killer thing is trying to replace a piece that big.

I am confident that I will be able to quick fix this without any issues. The repair piece of glass is coming in with a 180 I just sold to someone in town will update as I progress with this.

Glad to hear you'll be able to salvage the tank. Amen to small miracles.

Yes it is a good fish day.

I have my 2 ft x 2 ft piece of glass in hand. Will get to fixing this tank this weekend.

I researched lots on this matter and decided to go with the patch fix simply because the crack is almost straight across the tank only a 1/4 inch variance from the front to the back.

One other thing I am thinking of doing is to actually silicone the piece of foam on the bottom of the tank to make sure that the foam is solidly in place and to act as it were like a new bottom piece. I have not seen anyone do this but got the idea that a piece of foam would not only act like a shock absorber but also would add and extra rigidity of sorts.

Pics to come. Boy are my fronts gonna go nuts when they get this tank to live in. Though I have been getting tempted to move dark side on it.
