Does anyone have any experience with cracked tanks? Is it possible to fix them without replacing the whole tank? The crack is only about 6 inches. Thanks for any help.:grinno:

Does both ends of the crack go to the edge of the glass? Where is the crack located? Glass or acrylic? The more desciption you provide the better the chance of getting replies to your question.

Well see that's the problem. :grinno: I don't have the tank I am interested in buying it. I am told that the crack is on the side pannel and I beleive it is glass. The crack is about 6 inches. From what I have read it seems like my best option is to replace that pice of glass, is this true? Has anyone ever done this?

I have seen a tank repaired without replacing the piece of glass, although it was a 75g not as large as the one you are looking at.

The interior silicone was removed from entire tank. A piece of 1/2 glass was cut to fit inside the tank against the broken piece(cut to fit thight). The broken piece was then skimmed with silicone and the new piece was placed against it and let cure. The entire inside of the tank was then resealed with silicone.

The crack in the end glass of this tank was approx 24" in lenght. It went from front lower corner to the back upper corner.

the back of my 180 has a crack running from the top all the way to the bottom... I just took a piece of glass and completely covered the crack on the inside I made sure that my "bandaid" piece covered the crack and then more by about 6 inches either way then siliconed it all the way around its not the prettiest looking fix but it has held water for 6 months now... I would have replaced the whole back but the piece of glass would have cost more then a I paid for the tank plus I had the "bandaid" piece laying around

that's why i only want tru-vu acrylic.

 Why, is it because you think acrylic doesn't crack? At least support you statement, Because of right now your post has no value whatsoever to this thread.

Well sounds like if rottbo's tank held, the 225 with the end glass patched would do fine. What kinda deal are you getting on the 225g?

Thank you for all the info. I don't know if I am still getting it because I think he already sold it. But, he was asking 150obo. I am definatly getting a bigger tank in the next year no matter what tho cause my little monsters are growing fast!:grinno:
