Craiglist ad-should I be flattered or offended?

Comon man 800 sounds fair. His "extra decor and fish" must have cost him over 300 bucks right...

Brian_Indiana is right. The truth has come forward, and it takes more energy to be offended than to be flattered. If the guy doesn't know he sucks, he will by the time we expose is miscreant behavior. He has no integrity and can not be truthful about the entire issue, it's his downfall not yours. I'd just be thankful with knowing the truth. It'll come back and bite him in the ***.

I know for a fact that its "worth" a grand, but no way can you sell a 125g tank, even including stand, canopy, lighting, and filter for that much, unless you've got some nice rare fish included with it.

I started my asking price at $650, I think, and I sold it to him for $500 after about 6 months of no bites. So I'm almost certain he won't sell it for even $800.

I guess whats really galling me is that he has the bones to post it for double what he paid for it, when its fairly obvious that he hasn't done anything to it himself, and he knows that I still live in town.

I have not contacted him about it, although I've come very close several times. I've decided to remain "above" that, and not stoop to the level of calling him out, even in private. I guess if he can sell it for that much, more power to him. I did feel like calling him up and offering $350 or $400 for it though, just to hear his reaction :D.

I'de be flattered.. and have a few mental images of smacking him with a stick... and call it a day :nutkick:

I'd have a friend call him and make him an offer, then go with said friend to see it. ;) Would love to see his face when you walked up.

Mike

I'm not quite sure why you'd even care how much he's trying to sell it for. You sold it to him for a price you both agreed upon correct?

If he was selling it for $100 would you care? Are you asking if you should be offended for him selling it for more than he paid, or that he is selling your hard work & you assume he must not have liked it much? I'm confused.

Nobody cared when hp bought 3par or palm Took their product and resold it for a marked up price. This happens all the time in the business world making billions of dollars in revenue each yr. This really is no different just on a much smaller scale.

I never said he couldn't (try) to sell it for whatever he wanted. I completely understand trying to make a profit if you sell something, although honestly I'm of the mind that you help your fellow fishkeepers out when you can, because usually they'll reciprocate. And if not, at least you were nice to them. Plus, nothing in fishkeeping EVER increases in value after you buy it, other than fish themselves, and even that's not always guaranteed.

I'd equate the general feeling I have with seeing someone go to Goodwill, buy a $5 shirt, then go sell it for $10.

And if he'd offered it for $100 I'd have bought it on the spot...

Eh, I didn't post for a lesson on business ethics, I asked an opinion on this specific situation. I didn't say exactly what I was feeling, I was asking what you guys would think about the situation. Like I said, I'm not going to do anything about it, unless he drops the price low enough its worth it for me to buy it back.

Not trying to lecture on ethics just putting it in different perspective. Like ya said if it gets cheap enough buy it back if ya want it!
