Well the heater in my tank just cracked thanks to my fish!!!!!!! It's now 10:16 and I have no heater. How long will the water stay warm for? Its about 82 Degrees right now. 40 gallons. Upstairs in my house with the heater for the room next to it. Could I wait til the Am?

It will be cold by morning.

Do you have any extra heaters laying around?????......any wattage is better than nothing!!!.........If not..................remove and add 5 gallons hot water every few hrs if you are really worried until the LFS opens tomm!!:D

Oh and tomm but Stealth heaters...........All my thanks are heated by Stealt and temp is constant and they are unbreakable!!!!!!:headbang2

Do you think I could leave the heater on overnight? I took it out to inspect and rubbed a knife against the glass and the knife barely got stuck. Do you think it will still be tight from water just for 12 hours?

If the temp differential isn't to great (room to water) you could be ok till morning, if your fish can thake cooler water (same for temp. shock if you put in hot water :grinno: ).

Have you got a flood lamp you can place close to the tank? Water will absorb the heat and cover the sides over the tank to help stop radiative cooling.

Personally I would not risk giving my fish the Electric chair or yourself for that matter , when reaching in!! (believe me it sucks).............:WHOA:

Wally World is a whole nother world from here. Not many on Long Island which sucks. I do have a nice Halogen work light that will keep it warm:D haha I think that would keep me up wayyyy to late though haha. The room is rather warm. When I first had my Pbass when he was little it was in a 20 gallon without a heater for about a week.

Your call, but I wouldn't.

I had one cracked for 2 mo.'s w/o a prob. and one that cracked, then fell apart after it came back on for 3 min.
