I just bought all new fish (at different stores) and my GT's have ICK. I only had ICK once from a purchase years ago. What's the best thing again? I was going to do 70% wc, raise heat, and add salt. Am I missing anything? I don't like using meds

You got it. Add aeration.

you'll likely need to treat for longer if not using meds, just a side note.

Yup, salt Will do the trick. When I had ich in my 150 I treated with salt at 2 teaspoons per gallon. I didn't even raise the temp, my tank was at 80f and I just left it. I had Bala sharks and a pictus in addition to my cichlids and they all pulled thru fine. If you do raise the temp then, yeah, make sure you add extra aeration. Good luck!

I recently had this as well with a fish I bought from lfs the hospital tank got infected but raised the heat to 85 degrees and no salt and it was gone within a week. I still kept to heat for another two weeks just incase.

Seems like you're doing exactly what most of us would do!

Good luck the main thing is heat though

I treated for about 2 weeks. Make sure you add salt back for only the water you take out during water changes. Premix it in a bucket with tank water. Don't just dump in salt. And make sure to keep treating for at least 3 days after you don't see any more spots on the fish. You probably already know this, I'm just adding my two cents. :)

Actually ich is still present in the water it attached to the host the fish so just because it's off the fish doesn't mean it's completely gone. Can live in the tank and come back if not treated for a few weeks:

Exactly. That's why it's important to continue treatment even when the fish are clear of spots. Heat speeds up the life cycle. From what I understand and have read, at around 80f the life cycle is about 3days. Heat won't actually kill the parasite until close to 90f.

High temps Slows down the life cycle of the ick. Will kill like mentioned around 89-90 degrees.

It's a shame you are averse to meds, unless its a sensitive species...I got rid of ick in 3 days with malachite green
