This happens with every planted tank i attempt. Weird things grow on the tank. Right now i'm looking at this brownish sports that are growing all on the walls of the tank.
What is it.

Brown algae, don't let it get out of hand as nothing eats it. Scrape it and use a clean rag around your scraper to catch the fragments.

Sounds like a diatom to me, as everyone has said just scrub it off.

pleco can do the job? :grinno:
No, not if it is brown algae, small dark spots rapidly spreading esp. at water line and upper edges of substrate. It is tough and much harder to scrape off than green algae. I have yet to find a fish or snail that will eat it.

I had some "puffy" brown crap in my tank...I got a bristle nose pleco, and BAM she ate all of it!!!

I took a swish of my hand it dissapeared. Did a 20% water change. I think it's decaying plant matter.
