Maybe the fish was sick...I always quarantine any new fish I have before I introduce them to an established tank...it could've also been aggression. Adding a new cichlid to an already established tank can be tough.
Ya I hear ya. I added all the fish at the same time and the tank was empty before they were added. New to keeping a large group of Africans so didnt know if it's common

How long was it empty before you put these new fish in? I'm fairly green still but it sounds like you may have started a new cycle by increasing your stock. You should post your water parameters to help us help you...

all good bud. water is great. removed the previous fish that morining. Tested water today and everything is good amm 0 nit 0 nitrate 10
Did you get them from a place you don't usually go to?
Imagine you would've mentioned it but figured I'd ask anyway.. Were there any external symptoms? Any weird behaviors? Could someone have sprayed something near the tank?

Got them at a great place. He was alive the in the morning. hard to tell if he was acting ok because there is 22 fish in there. but when i fed them they all came up and were active. He was all white so he was died for awhile and fish started to eat him so its hard to say.
