Crappie ID please

well he was around 3 or 4".
I had 2 of this color one, and the other one was totally black striped..

I am pretty sure(it has a big mouth) it's a crappie but don't know what it is..
The reservoir I caught it has black & white crappie.

The best way to tell Black & White Crappie apart is to count the spines on the dorsel fin.
5 or 6 = White Crappie
7 or 8 = Black Crappie
You can not go by color, I have caught spauning White Crappie in tember that were very dark. I also caught Black Crappie that were not spauning that were pale.

I would guess your crappie was a Black Crappie by its coloration, but without counting the spines I could not be sure.

oh i released him in the pond already..lol won't be able to count..

can't see well but it looks around 8.
the first few spines are colored black

Your pics are of a black crappie, the striped one was likely a white.

ive caught 2" fish on my ugly stick.lol
small hook with small bait or lure or guppies/mosquito fish
