Crappie or Bass?

Random FYI; "rock bass" are not bass at all, but are in the sunfish family.

are black crappie, whitish in color when they are young?
I had 3 crappie in my tank..i didn't check if thei had markings or stripes on them..

but the 2 crappie that are left right now seem a little whitish in color but have the black crappie pattern..

Black bass (Largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, suwannee and whatever else) are also in the same family. (Centrarchidae)

Crappie are in this family also.

What people commonly call sunfish (such as bluegill and pumpkinseed) are fish from the genus Lepomis.

Anyway, I agree that the OP fish as a rock bass. Rock bass and crappie are extremely easy to tell apart if you compare them side by side.
