Well, Thursday was a crappy day. I've been trying to get the fish in my 125g tank (including my 13" venezuelan pike male) moved into a 220g so the rest of my fish could get a desperately needed upgrade.

Well, I haven't been able to get the 220g running yet (bogged down with the sump), so I decided to sell my ven pike, since he's really the only stopping me adding new fish to his tank (he's killed 4 new tankmates in 2 months :irked:).

I really wanted to move him so I could move the alta pike pair and the lone johanna female into the 125g, where they'd have more space and territory, for possible breeding.

Well, MasterB traded me for my ven pike on Thursday. I fished him out (he was not happy) drove up and met MasterB (got a nice Ornate Bichir in trade), and came back home. I acclimated and added the ornate to the 125g tank, and then went to check on the pikes. I was planning on adding them to the 125g tank yesterday. Well, I find the female alta beat to death, and the male alta showing more flair and colors than he's ever shown before. Only I think he's trying to impress the johanna female :screwy:.

So the idiot male alta, whom the female alta has beat up at least a dozen times over the last 6 months trying to get him to mate, goes and kills the female alta, while trying to impress an immature johanna female :swear:.

Anybody else have anything like that happen? :irked:

Its just really weird that the male suddenly decided that he liked the immature johanna better than the alta, and then took the extra step to beat the alta female to death.

I've transferred both pikes to the 125, along with some other fish, and he's STILL showing the same colors he had right after I found the female dead. And still following around the johanna. I don't think she understands what he wants yet. I just hope he doesn't end up killing her too.

Shoulda just let me finish that sump and then you would already be up and running :grinno:

:p

I've got two of the dividers in, just need to add one more, some biomedia supports, and the filter sock supports, and then it will be ready to go into the stand. Then I've got to do the plumbing on the 220g, but that should just be the standpipes, short drains, and some return line.

Ive been working 60+ hours per week at the glass shop and 10-15 at a new high end camping store in town so im pretty swamped. Ive only built a few sumps over the past few months and only one tank. Im hoping to have more time this winter.
