Fishing in Wisconsin
I may be acquiring a very large Datnoid tomorrow night from a friend and I would like some suggestions of how I can treat this Dat as well as possible. Here's what I've been told:

Species: unknown
Size: I've been told this fish "much" larger than 15" (he claims ~4lbs... hard tell'n not know'n...)
Currently in Brackish water

I'm only planning on temporarily housing this big guy until I can find it a permanent home. I have a well established 125 ready, but it's freshwater setup. Currently 79-80F.

My plan is to drip acclimate him to the water of that tank. I've never kept a Dat before, but I have transported many large fish I just need to know what special requirements I need to meet.

All of your help is appreciated. I found out about this situation this afternoon and it should be happening tomorrow night. Plenty of pictures to follow for ID and so on and to verify the true size of this supposed beast.

Thanks MFK.

Well it all comes down to what type of dat you have. ST's, IT's and NTT's are kept mostly in fresh but alittle salt isnt going to hurt. Ive heard of people keeping them in almost brackish. AT's and NGT's im pretty sure are the more brackish ones. If its as big as you say it is it has to be a IT or ST. All the others arent going to get that big. Get a pic of it.

If it's been kept in fully brackish, going into fully FW- then u should drip aclimate, as u said for 1-2 hours. Dump air stone in as well.
Strong filtration, freq. Regular wc's, and good qu. Food.
There easy to look after .. Tigers.

Might be a lil cramped in the 125g but shouldnt be much of a problem. I'd highly suggest a strong mechanical filter with the addition of a wet/dry. Larger dats make huge poop clouds! LOL!

Unfortunately not. The guy never called... Maybe I'll hear something tomorrow, but I'm doubting it.

I'm pretty disappointed.

The long story is that, yesterday, this guy called the pet store that a friend of mine and I work at. My friend told the guy that he didn't have room for the fish at the store, but that he would ask around if he could find a place. The guy said that if he couldn't find a home for it, he would just kill it... :( Well, my friend said that he convinced the guy to call back today and hold off the execution for 24 hours to see if we could find a home. I was willing to take the fish, but the call never came. I'm thinking that he might not have held off. Too bad. Who knows, maybe the call will come tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath.
