Haha!!! Maybe when the 55 is done cycling, I can put filter, media in the 17. I am using a sponge filter, by the way
If ya have a sponge filter that's cycled on your 17g already just do bi-weekly water changes and you'll be fine with just that filter. No need to over filter the tank. Just don't over clean the sponge filter and you'll be fine. Only clean it when need be, if it's still pumping out multiple bubbles per second it's still good. When ya clean the sponge just make sure to use used tank water not tap.

What about a fish cycle?
A fish in cycle still takes roughly a month. With a fish in cycle it's best to test the parameters of the tank daily and give it a 20% water change every 3-4 days. With a small tank like your 17g I would recommend a 10% water change every 1-2 days along with a 20% water change at the end of every week.

Just remember the smaller the tank the more maintenance it'll need on a more regular basis.

My buddy has a freshwater prawn named Mr Pinch. He would hold his dirty claws straight up for hours just waiting for a fish to take the chance to clean them. He figured this out and they had no chance. Minnows, barbs, tetras all food.

I have a question for you where are you located because you do know there are different species of crayfish which crawdads are the same thing and from what you are saying I’m imagining you are form the west coast for they say crawdads more than crayfish also do you know your local laws regulating the catching of crayfish also there are some species crayfish that are endangered in the usa like the Guyandotte River crayfish also its probably better that you buy the crayfish from your local petstore because it will already be used too captivity.
