Just recently i had to wrangle up me some 40 odd young(about 4 hid to good to be caught, they stayed behind for me to discover i created a hybrid with potental) to send off the the lfs, and i had fun manning-up to them. at the end of the day i was sticking my hand in the bucket and scooping out about 7 of them at a time
Hahaha....you should have sold them to the LFS for $1.50 each.
Before you know it you'll have a free tank!!! ;)

The only trouble is some cuttlefish bones rot for some time so watch out for that. I use broken eggshells. Both dissolve faster in soft acidic waters. They were for my snails by the way.

lol......When their shell hardens up. You have to handle them now & again.

eg: Finding out what sex they are.....

I think mine is a male from looking at his underside when I have had a chance.

Why do I 'have' to handle him? I guess they don't bite or anything. What about pinching?

An update though, my little dude pretty much ate his whole melt form what I can tell and is action jackson now with a big appetite.

leave the shell in their until he finishes eating it-thats what i always do. its good for giving them calcium to allow them to make their new exoskeleton

When handling, the tricky part is actually catching them without being nipped....lol  .. Once you have hold of them it's pretty easy unless they start flapping their tales about.....I've dropped a few when they do that.....Only the big ones but......

To find out what sex m/f , flip them over and take a gander at their rude bits....hahahaha. :naughty:

i had a regular old native crawdad around 4 inches and he nipped me once and didnt let go. it didnt hurt much at all and it didnt even break the skin

I started using both eggshell bits and cuttlefish bone for my brigs snails. I hear it is a good source of calcium for inverts, and put some in my cray tanks as well. So far so good!
