hey all! I was wanting to get a crayfish for my tank, but the dude at the lfs told me that if I have fish and frogs in my tank, they crayfish will eat them. Is that true? I mean who the hell would have a tank set up solely for a crayfish? This is coming from the same people who sold me crabs that swore that they were purlely aquatic ( and here they drowned)

id keep a cray to a 20 by itself

if the fish are large enough the cray should be no problem.

but if the fish is large and predatory you might have the cray end up as lunch

true Crays can make a meal outve small fish that it can catch, an large predator fish will have a tasty snack of said Cray. I think one would be ok as long as you give him/them enough hiding spots an keep them fed, with fish that are to big for them to catch but still small enough so that they wont eat the cray

Crays kill ANYTHING they can overpower. Crays and top dwellers are okay.

I got about ten of these guys in a korean market for $1.50. Very cool color. I clipped their claws or removed them so they wouldn't take out my loaches.

ive had my one 55 with just crayfish and feeders in it, got too grousome for my kids though, the crays are cannibals. They also molt wich is cool, but they escape and make my wife scream bloody murder as they click across the bathroom floor. had one run across my foot and pissed on the wall it scared me so bad, anyway thats crays in a nut shell, clip one half of there large pinchers off is your scared of attack, and remember they are escape artists

Instead of buying crayfish, I would recomend catching them from a local creek, lake, or pond. I have them w/ fish in my tank, and as long as the fish are big enough, but not big enough to eat them, then you should be fine.

why the hell did you do that?!?!?!

the claws are not nails that you can just clip like a dog or cats

you should have just never bought the cray or moved it to its own tank :(

The claws regenerate. Unlike dogs or cats.
The crayfish were being sold as food in a Korean Market....unlike dogs or cats...well unlike Kroger anyway.

I don't want a tank full of crawdads. These are more interesting than locally caught because they are bright red and good scavengers under my exodon. I'm cruel I guess in that I don't hold crayfish to the same ethical standards of life as mammals. I also step on spiders. I'm sure there's a seperate layer in hell devoted to those like me.
