Crawlspace as an enclosure?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
on second thought, you might want two windows, at either end. get a good draft in there... its bound to smell after awhile and airing it out wouldnt hurt.

If I had a tile floor with a drain, could I still have dirt or mulch as substrate?

ya, just cover the drain so no dirt or mulch gets in. then when you replace the bedding, all you have to do is scoop it out and instead of scrubbing the inside and moping it, all you would have to do it just use a hose or pressure washer and blast it all down the drain.

you need to worry about moisture from both top and bottom. if it is sub flooring with carpet and water gets spilled there's your moisture. if its hard wood flooring it should have a moisture resistant coating of some kind.

I think you would be wise to listen to my son. He has a vast knowledge of enclosure building. He started 10 years ago and has had several disasters at first. He has educated himself on all aspects of construction, temperature, proper filtration and lighting. You should see his house and his enclosures. I started out wanting to complement you on your outstanding Taegu. That is one outstanding lizard. You really should be proud of it. I just love them. When you look in their eyes, you can see that they actually have a brain and are using it. Best of luck with your enclosure.

Youre dde1878's father? I'm certainly appreciated his and everyones help, and I'll definately refer back to this thread when I start this project (sadly, its a long way off).

Do you happen to have any pictures of his enclosures? I always love seeing other peoples projects, I even have a folder of about 200 pictures on my computer full of the greatest displays I've ever seen. Ive seen some absolutely spectacular ones from just everyday people.

And sorry, thats not my tegu! It belongs to Bert Langerwerf of Agama International (whom I believe recently passed away...). I just wanted to show an example picture for the thread. Sorry if I didnt make a point of that!

here are pics of my biggest enclosure, 8'x7'x4'. 8 tall 7 wide and 4 deep. these are pics of my son and the enclosure, you'll notice he is inside the enclosure in the first pic.
