Cray ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cray #2-3 - O. limosus and #1 - C. robustus would be my guess. The claw shape doesn't look right to be any of the other natives in your state. Cray #2 is also a male, Cray #3 its a little blurry to tell... I don't see gonopods but I don't see egg receptacles either.

Anyway, could be wrong on the IDs... I can tell you what they're definitely not from your list of natives, heh.

kk from what i can tell i do have one male and one female from the info on that link.

hmm kk thanks for the info. All i can tell about #2-#3 is they they are both different on the bottom. The bigger one #3 likes to act big when i come by the tank and rear up while the other just chills there.

The bigger cray sounds like it's just displaying dominance and aggression because of it's size (whereas the smaller one is being passive to avoid any issue). You could just have a big, mean cray, too. Even with in the same species, gender, size range, etc crays can display very different personalities and behaviors from one another.

Oh hey, I forgot to mention before... if you want a positive ID go check out bluecrayfish.com and post some pictures in their species identification section. There's a user named "appy" there who just about the best there is at cray IDs.

well i went back and caught them all up and had a good look #2, and #3 are both males and #1 (the small one) is a female and i took a good look at the claws and such and i think you are correct on your IDs
