So unfortunatly my C.macrolepidotus has come down with a bit of ich. She's currently being housed with a pair of scissortail rasbora's and my 5" quad (whome I love and adore more than just about anything). So my question for all of you is what should I do to cure the ich on my chalceus without harming my cray and before it spreads to my rasbora's? I went to my favorite LFS and my buddy Clark gave me some "Ick Guard II" by Jungle. It's meant for scaleless/sensitive fish and doesn't have any warning's about use with invertebrates like most other medications do. The package says it's active ingredients are formalin (37% solution) and victoria green. Would these be harmfull to my cray? I was thinking about maybe just doing half a dose...? What do you folks think?

Thanks for your help! :D

i use kordon ick attack. it is an organic herbal treatment and can be used on very sensitive fish and even corals. i beat ick a couple of times wih this med and slowly raising temp to 85-86f

just use some salt (table salt with or without iodine)about a table spoon per 5 gallons and bump up the temp to about 84 -85 degrees

I think I'm going to try this method. Using the commercial ich treatment just seems a little too sketchy when it comes to the health of my little invertebrate friend. So iodine and temperatures this high shouldn't hurt him?

I'd just remove your cray from the tank altogether. It is my understanding that crays can't carry ick parasites and can't transmit the disease so there is no reason to treat the crayfish in the tank. You can just place it into a small container/bucket with just a bit of water so it can breathe and place it back when you are done treating the infected tank. High temps may also kill your crayfish.

i think the heat might hurt the little guy. I'm pretty sure malachite green shouldn't hurt invertebrates.

Should he be okay in a bucket without heated water for a couple days while I'm treating the tank as long as he gets daily WC's?

Yes. you will want to keep the water level not to high so your cray can breath--they can get oxygen from the air if their lungs stay moist. You can cover them with water enough so they can raise their heads up out of the water and make sure you change their water as they can be poop machines!

Sorry: just reread your posting and saw daily water changes.

I just moved him to a 5 gal with an airpump. I decided to just treat the tank with the commercial ich treatment and was wondering...after the ich gets cleared up should I just do several 50% WC's to get all of the medication out of the tank before replacing my cray? Will there still be harmfull trace amounts?
