Tried feeding my Dovii some crawdads yesterday, he wasn't to impressed. Kinda just looked at em for a while then swam off. My 16 year old nephew claimed he grabbed one and chomped on it for a bit then spit it out in pieces. I'm starting to think that live food of any kind isn't what my Dovii craves at all. He basically just destroys everything live then spews it back into the tank for me to clean up later. I may look into some Massivore pellets later at an Lfs bout 20 miles from me, I just don't want him getting bored with the regular dose of Hikari large pellets is all. Any other good non live food out there, that anyone could suggest for Dovii?

I feed my Jag a variety of pellets, with NLS as the daily staple and alternating days of Omega1, Southern Delight, and Hikari Carnivore pellets. Once a week I'll also give him some freeze dried or frozen krill and frozen freshwater mysis shrimp. There's a pretty large selection of frozen and freeze dried foods out there, should be able to find something your dovii likes.

Hes probably just well fed & use to his staple diet. If I want to feed something like that i'll starve for a day then offer it up. Usually it has to swim on the surface or move a lot to provoke a well fed Parachromis

my dovii pair crush earth worms from teh bait shop like its there job but wont touch raw shrimp lol i dont get it. Also feeders but after about 2 thhey just end up spitting them out.

Cool, My next question is feeding? How often would you guys feed a 10" male Dovii? I was doing like 2-3 large pellets at like 7am, and 2-3 more at 4 or 5 pm? Is that about the norm, or should I cut back?

I'd cut back to one feeding a day. Just enough to get him some what full (until aggression declines slightly when coming up to feed). I'd also start skipping a day. My old dovii was 14" I fed him 5 times a week. My jag is 13" and gets fed the same. imo
