Crayfish breeding for fish food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a follow up question. With the marbled crayfish shld i keep 2 in a tank? Since they clone. Now i dont want too many marbled babies. But i want engh to feed my 2 tiger oscars(on occasions not always) and imma feed the majority to the mantis shrimp i plan on getting. I heard they lay several hudred babies each month. So shld i get 2 or one to feed them?

kk so start with one but how many full growns shld i keep in a 30gal(permanent home). I dont want to be over run and have to be like a nazi and kill them........

you will be able to feed them. Keep in mind they will cannibalize some young. You can always freeze them as well to save for food for your fish. You could also sell and trade the offspring. I would not be too concerned about being overpopulated. Keep in mind too, they will take awhile to grow to a decent size. So if you keep feeding them when they are small, they will not hit maturity to have multiple reproducing.

k sounds good how old shld i feed the babies

alrite srry for all the questions just one more though when shld i retire the main cloners and get new ones

i would assume their lifespan is close to 3 y ears, so I would pay attention to her clutches and how frequently she is breeding. When its slowing down, leave some young to grow out.

kk sounds good thnx for all ur help
