I have kept a yabbie blue in with my 12" jag far nearly a year now and I have found him to be a perfect maid service for a tank that cory cats cant survive in.

I am going to be putting some in my 180g with my big male red terror. There are plenty of great places to hide in this tank. What I was wondering was how well do different species of crayfish coexist together. I would like to put in at least 3 crays. I just added a tiger lobster and an indonesian lobster and would like to put in one more maybe a yabbie blue. Does anyone know if this will cause conflicts? Will they try to breed together? I never realy thought about it beforehand. Also how many would be a good number to keep the 180g clean without crowding and excessive fighting occurring.

Since they're all big and they're all different species I'd give each cray 40 gallons of water. So you can put 4 or 5 in your tank. However, when one moults, you might have to worry about cannibalism. I'd personally keep all the same species of crayfish in the tank.

I doubt they'll crossbreed.

Moulting can take anywhere from 1 hour to 1 day. However, it will usually take 2 or 3 days for the new exoskeleton to fully harden. This is why they'd be so vulnerable.

My tiger lobster moulted 3 days after I got it:drool: I thought it was dying so i took him out of the tank and patted him till i saw him move then I dropped him back in the tank. Also the pet store guy told me they moult once a month so he'll be going at it again soon. I also got a bala shark and a tetra in my 28g tank I know kinda small and all but thats all I could afford for now. I'll get a 100g tank next year and maybe some more balas I would also like to get an arrowana too if anyone knows where I can get one. They had an arrowana at pjs but I went for the tiger instead and now the arrow is gone.

Crayfish moulting depends on their size. For example, three day old crayfish moult almost every day and around three months old once a month to six weeks and after a year can be every six to twelve months between moults.

Multiple species in one tank is not often recommended and especially no northern with southern crayfish. Quite often it is the risk of 'crayfish disease' being transfered from the northern to the southern.

What kind of crayfish is this because i wanna get another one... The LFS I got it from had it Labled as a red crayfish... Where can i get another one... Hes huge
