Crayfish molted: Pics!

It's good if you leave the empty shell in the tank. Something will eat it. Ideally, the crayfish will. The calcium is good for them.

The cray always takes care of the molt.

they usually eat their own shell for calcium. I have 8 babies left and usually they molt after a large water change. I leave the shell in and the others will start eating it as well.

Did you breed them? How do you distinguish sex?

there is a diffrence if you flip them upside down and look at the base of the tail. I forgot exactly what it is but if you Google blue crayfish there are a couple of sites that shows you the diffrence. I just put 6 adults together and let nature take it's course.

Do they fight? I want to add a red cray to the tank, but was worried. It's only ten gallons.

Yes, they definitely eat it. I feel the responsibility to warn you that they are very delicate at this time and other fish will eat them if given the chance. You need to put a lot of hiding places in your tank so that they can be safe. I just lost my beautiful blue lobster, during this process. He was eaten by my Red Bellies. Yes I'm bummed out.

My cray lives alone, or with community fish.
