has anyone here had any luck with keeping arowanna with rtc's? my little rtc ate his second arrowana last night and i woke in a frustrated rage to a fat rtc lookin at me. i thought the fact that the aro was 2times longer than the cat would detour any behavior like this. is it possible to keep these two beautiful fish together?

Don't take this as a ass remark, but why would you try it for a second time?

rtc will eat it sooner or later

well i tried it the second time because the first time i was just being stupid putting an aro slightly smaller in just because it was the right price. i figured if the aro was about 3 inches longer than the 4-5" rtc i'd be ok at least until one got slightly larger and was ready for the bigger tank.
btw they're in a grow out tank of 50gal right now. both had plenty of room to swim around and were very happy untill last night the rtc snapped and ate his seemingly little buddy.well i'm done tryin for a while till i get more space for this project. would much rather have my lil rtc anyday though so at least if i can only have one i have the one i want.

Who was in the tank first the rtc or the aro, i have kept these two in the same tank and they did fine, until i removed the rtc and put him back my aro tore him a new one, then the aro went to baltimore aquarium where he lives with a larger rtc than the one i had. the aro is around 4 to 5 feet rtc about 3 feet.

damn thats your aro at the baltimore aquarium? that thing is monster.....how long did you have him.....sorry to derail.......

The reason RTC should be kept alone is that they will devour anything they can cram into ther mouths...but i admit i dont keep mine alone its has pond mates a clown knife, various cichlids etc.

i would personally buy at least a 12" arrowana the arrow should keep up the growing pace with the rtc for a while.

RTC will usually eat anything they can get in their mouths, even if the rest of the fish sticks out! My rtc 24" is in with a 25" PACU, 24" P.Niger Cat & 24" L. Pictus cat and that it, I have lost TOOOOOO many fish to rtc's over the years.

i lost about $2,500 to my one rtc alone in two years.

personaly i would not try to do it anywayz because one way or another the arrowanna will get beatin up. all the rtcs i had don't like fish swimming over their territority.

Yep he was mine, well she. We had him for about 3 years got him as a 6inch guy an raised it up until it was about 3ft or so and gave it to them, it lived at a place called sega in an 800gal tank by itself for a year then went on display. It has grown alot since i have had it, its one of the biggest i have seen in captivity. It is bigger than they are supposed to be in captivity. so if you think that an arrowanna gets only 3ft in captivity that has been broken. I had kept it in an indoor pond when i had it with rtc and a large marble cat

that fish is absolutely amazing.......truley the definition of what an arowana should be .....if it didn't have drop-eye so bad i would say its the best one i've seen in captivity.....and the RTC that is with it is massive.......easily the same size maybe bigger.........
