  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive seen our ck eat algae wafers too but now it seems he only wants meat and wont touch any pellets weird fish at about17 or so inches I thought he would gobble up baby convicts but he wont touch them. Does your ck seem to have poor eye sight because it appears ours could use glasses or does their eye sight get worse as they grow.

Yup...once they see what other fish are eating, they'll eat too.

Yeah, but if that were true of all or even most wild fish there would not be the evolutionary adaptations for specialized diets. I understand fish of the same species or genus "learning" by watching other fish, I am just trying to make sense of unrelated fish (one herb and one carn) doing the same; or a carn deciding out of the blue that the sharp meat eating teeth it has would work well as salad forks. It doesn't seem to be an anomaly either.

Maybe you could start a new trend... Hipster vegan fish... Teach them how to ride a fixie and give them some vinyl to listen to...

Fish definitely are better at one thing or another digestion-wise, but fish will eat pretty much anything. If it fits in their mouth, it goes down. This is especially true after they become well adjusted to captivity/and or see other fish eating the food.

But these fish are not in the wild. Wild fish will pick and choice what they eat. In an aquarium, they are forced to eat whatever we give them and/or what's available. If you look at Hikari's ingredient list, they are all basically the same. All have fish meal, krill meal, etc. which is what they go for.

^ very true, most Hikari and sinking pellets do have some vegtables in it, as well as krill, shrimp, wheat, etc. Thus don't be suprised if they eat vegies.
