crazy lfs....animal cruelty?

Agreed as it does no harm as a customer to say something,of course it's all in how it is said...Now,in Pa.,which store is this and where is it?
Report them!!! me and my other half have been relentlessly reporting and checking on our Petco.....BBB has contacted us and them we are in contact with there manager and we continue to report and check on the store...it acutely looks like it is improving..ever so slightly ..they hate it when they see us walk in the store ^_^ one of the workers always runs off to get the manager who meets us in the fish department to listen to every complaint...looking very annoyed ^_^
The pet smart by me at school only fed its fish weekend feeders. I think you can guess what all the fish looked like, flipping concentration camp victims is an understatement.
I have to understand that fish arent even considered in animal cruelty laws as sad as it was to see them in that condition. But i was more worried about the actuall animals.....also im worried about all the kids that visit that store as its the only petstore besides petsmart for a good hour drive. Alot of families take their kids there to see the interesting animals......how are they supposed to know that an animal needs alot more space than what the "professionals" are giving it.........alligator in a 20 gallon.....i mean cmon
This brings up the funny notion that formal institutions know best. Its an argument that comes up whenever discussing exotic pet ownership laws. "ONLY IN A ZOO OR COMMERCIAL SETTING" will be a frequent response from people give. I just don't think that these supposed brain trusts are any better. They are after all just people. Just look at how these stores fail with government oversight to be decent. I don't see this and think, "HEY WE BETTER MAKE SOME MORE LAWS THAT WILL FIX IT ALL" I just want to empower the individual to do the right thing by whatever animal they want to have.
No I don't. But it is pretty stupid for people to complain about this. Look at the nature of the business, also realize it is the customer who keeps these businesses going and the reason they exist. LFS's don't have fish to raise as pets, it is just merchandise. To them it is merchandise to us they are pets, so 2 different points of view. I bet this LFS is not much different from most LFS people go to. If people feel really strong about this they should get out of this hobby because this is the sad reality of the hobby.
Same with most LFS. They feed them only enough to keep them surviving, but not thriving. Pets Smart, Petco, and all other LFS, even the vendors here are in the business to make money. Giving fish bigger tanks, more food, more heat, better filtration, better lighting etc cost a lot of more money and that is less profit.
Importing fish is to just hold them temporary until a customer buys them. 1000s and 1000s of fish die in the process but no one cares they just see this as loss merchandise. The fish business is just the same as your supermarket.
I mean if people feel strongly about the conditions these fish are held in or that 1000s of fish die all the time then get out of the hobby. I am not on the LFS side but I am also not ignorant. That is the sad reality of this hobby, also another sad reality is when stupid people get a hold of fish and keep them in small tanks or buy them to watch them torture or destroy other animals.
