Crazy looking GT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry guys I gotta disagree. I'm new to Saums...only have owned one for about a month and a half. But I spent months looking at pictures of them on the net. I have never came across one that has a lemon yellow terminal band on its tail and dorsal edging. I have only seen them in white, silver and mainly orange...Never bright yellow. Its an amazing specimen.

If you google (image) Aequidens rivulatus you will find a couple pics of yellow looking fish. I think we need to also consider that the original poster did not take the picture. It could be the lighting, the way the light is coming through or shining on the tail etc. I'm not saying that yellow edged fish do not exist, I'm just saying that there is no way to actually verify the picture.

We'll need more evidence with possibly someone on this board acquiring a fish or six. Then breeding them... And possibly selling the fry cheap... To maybe... Me.

;)

Here are a few pics I pulled of the google search:

I have to believe the color in the image is washed out a bit. Look at the background. Its all kinda pale.

Gold Saums are some of the most beautiful fish. It is hard to get a good pic of their true color with a camera. You can manipulate them to bring out the blues or yellows, greens or reds. I never trust the color of an image unless the photographer swears its a as close to the real thing.

example. First pic is the original pic of my GT. Second is the electric version (saturated) and the third is when the white balance is a little on the yellow side.

Jeox

That is a very nice GT. I used to have eight GTs and I sold five big ones (8 to 9"). I am growing out the small ones and hopefully they are going to be nice.

I am really picky about them.

mjime714,
Good write up and examples. Nice GT too. How big and how old is he?

Thanks Tango!

I have had him for about 6 months. That was about the 3 month stage. He was about 5.5 inches and breeding at the time. I got him at about 4" and now he is almost 7 TL (total length)
