Hi, First off AMAZING site.
This is only my second post in here, glad i found this place there is endless information in here.
Ive kept Malawi cichlids for quite a few years, but 4 days ago i decided to get rid of them as i was getting to many losses in the tank. My 2 large compressorceps kept killing off the weaker Mbuna, aswell as my larger Mbuna also targeting their smaller tank mates. They were a funny bunch, and more aggressive than any other malawi's ive come across, but unfortunately they had to go. They are all now split up in different tanks down at my LFS (for their own safety
)
If anyone has any questions about their Malawi's feel free to ask, theres not too much i dont know about them, if i can help i will.
As if it was meant to be, the day before i decided to get rid of my malawi's my LFS got a batch of 4 baby Rhoms for the VERY FIRST time all between 1.5"-2". They new nothing about them and had them labeled up as white piranha, and it was me that had to tell them that they were S.Rhombeus. So i managed to pick him up for just £17.50 before they decided to raise the price
He was the largest of the 4 and by far the most dominant, he was chasing my finger and as small as he is even tried to attack the net when the assistant tried to catch him so i new i was onto something.
He is in my tank along with 6 danios and 5 neons (not intended as food, as i know it can be pulled off sometimes)
I came home tonight (hes been in my tank for just 36 hrs) and he's managed to nip the tails of 3 of the danios and 2 of the neons which i would have thought were too fast for him. BUT heres the thing, hes managed to catch, kill and eat whole one of the neons. I find this very unusual for 2", hes just soooo aggressive for his size. He doesnt even hide from me when i approach the tank (except the odd time), hes not skittish in the slightest which is uncharacteristic of this species as far as i know. Hopefully ive got my self a proper little gem, what do you think?
Any tips on feeding and packing on size would be helpful as i know they are very slow growers.
.... will add pics when i get the chance
