Hi, First off AMAZING site.
This is only my second post in here, glad i found this place there is endless information in here.

Ive kept Malawi cichlids for quite a few years, but 4 days ago i decided to get rid of them as i was getting to many losses in the tank. My 2 large compressorceps kept killing off the weaker Mbuna, aswell as my larger Mbuna also targeting their smaller tank mates. They were a funny bunch, and more aggressive than any other malawi's ive come across, but unfortunately they had to go. They are all now split up in different tanks down at my LFS (for their own safety:D)
If anyone has any questions about their Malawi's feel free to ask, theres not too much i dont know about them, if i can help i will.

As if it was meant to be, the day before i decided to get rid of my malawi's my LFS got a batch of 4 baby Rhoms for the VERY FIRST time all between 1.5"-2". They new nothing about them and had them labeled up as white piranha, and it was me that had to tell them that they were S.Rhombeus. So i managed to pick him up for just £17.50 before they decided to raise the price:ROFL:
He was the largest of the 4 and by far the most dominant, he was chasing my finger and as small as he is even tried to attack the net when the assistant tried to catch him so i new i was onto something.

He is in my tank along with 6 danios and 5 neons (not intended as food, as i know it can be pulled off sometimes)
I came home tonight (hes been in my tank for just 36 hrs) and he's managed to nip the tails of 3 of the danios and 2 of the neons which i would have thought were too fast for him. BUT heres the thing, hes managed to catch, kill and eat whole one of the neons. I find this very unusual for 2", hes just soooo aggressive for his size. He doesnt even hide from me when i approach the tank (except the odd time), hes not skittish in the slightest which is uncharacteristic of this species as far as i know. Hopefully ive got my self a proper little gem, what do you think?
Any tips on feeding and packing on size would be helpful as i know they are very slow growers.

.... will add pics when i get the chance

Very nice pikcup bud, you got a great price. Ive got a rhom at about 5" and he oes get scared of me.

Thanks m8. Yeah thats why im so impressed with him because he's so confident for a Rhom (his size), obviously he does hide sometimes but most of the time he doesnt give a ****
what size did you get yours at?

About the same size back in july. And im loving your username too.

so hes grown to 5 inch in 5 months. thats pretty good m8. Hope mine grows like that. I know of a medicine you can give them that rids them of tapeworm, and that can pile on an inch a month. coz apparently Rhoms are prone to tapeworm.
lol... thanks yeah that his name Ron the Rhom

Oh no i didn't make it very clear he was about 4.5" when i got him, but hes only been getting fed 3-4 times per week.

at 2" they are still developing they're character. just like red bellies, they are finger chasers when young and immature. he will grow and smarten up and know you could be a threat to him.

the best way to keep him mean is to put him in his life time tank while small and young. this way he won't have to experience a tank change. taking piranha out of the tank by net can reduce they're confidence and could take months before they get back to normal and sometimes will never be as agreesive as they once were. of course there are special cases of which this does not apply.

you might want to try that tapeworm medicine. you just add it to your tank water. Most LFS should sell it.
