Crazy to move a full tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I said im crazy not stupid haha.

I can dead lift an impressive amount of wieght for my size but i wouldn't attempt a completely full tank.

I will empty at least 50% of the water but wae wondering if it would be easier to not remove all the rock and fish if i were to just slowly and carefully move the tank if i could jack up either side and rest the corners on carpet slider discs.

but since the GF is away and i have the free time ill prob just do what you all recomended and take my time.

so whats a good distance to keep off the wall? im thinking 6"+

I had to move a 75gl once about 2 feet over because another tank leaked and I needed to get the carpet dried out under the tank. I got a rubber maid took all the livestock out with a sponge filter in the rubber maid. Took out all the rock work and all the water. I only left the substrate I then had someone just kinda "spot" the tank while i moved it. It wasnt bad at all. If your going to be taking water and rocks out you might as well just take everything out to be safe. Its only going to take a few more mins anyways.

sorry if I sound bad but a 75g that is out that small and you are worried about moving it a short distance full shoot back against the wall feet on the stand and slowly push it out easy peasy

I have moved more than a few full tanks and never had a problem, after all it is only a 75g

i agree with the chef, i readjusted a quarter full 180g the same way

if i could slide the tank that easy i would have but the angle iron legs of the stand on a carpeted floor doesnt slide at all. the only/best way seems to do a large waterchange and remove all heavy objects so i may just go the safe route.

I should put that as a lesson learned and plan a little better next time

When I moved my 130g salt water tank 90 degrees (from one side of a corner to the other) I had to empty all the water and live rock but left the wet sand in. It was still kind of heavy to slide on the carpet and I was worried I might break the wooden stand or pop a seal on the tank but it worked out alright. Better safe than sorry, imagine if you cracked the tank?

3/4"?:screwy: Dude relax a little unless someone is going over your fishroom with a caliper no one will ever notice.
Do you make the fish stand at attention?

Sorry just messin,if it really bothers you get the rocks and 3/4 of the water out and just lift the end.Dont use the jack, too much potential for harm there.Even on carpet thats doable

I had to drain my 100 gal to move it half an inch because the lid was catching on the stairs above it on one side. :irked:

Always better to be safe than sorry IMO.

yeah im just going to empty the tank and move it... just wanted to see if there were any other methods out there that i ddnt think of
